Many artists have been inspired to become professional musicians after listening to their favorite band or a certain song. After years, when they embark on a music career, young artists are greeted by contemporary musicians who have made a name for themselves, which makes it difficult for the new ones to stand out. This is one of the factors that might push artists to their limits when trying to find their unique sound.
Some of these musicians ultimately build a reputation by bringing something new to the rock scene and become successful. However, there were certain instances when famous artists expressed their wish to have written other musicians’ classics. According to a 2010 interview, this was the case with Jon Bon Jovi, who admitted he wanted to be the writer of some rock hits.
Which Songs Did Jon Bon Jovi Wish He Were The Songwriter Of?
When Jon Bon Jovi started his music career, there were numerous prominent artists on the scene who had already made history with their successful works. Music acts like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, and Van Halen had released numerous songs that were considered great hits.
Throughout the years, Jon Bon Jovi also joined them with songs like ‘You Give Love A Bad Name,’ ‘Livin’ On A Prayer,’ ‘It’s My Life,’ and ‘Bad Medicine.’ However, it turns out that he still seeks to write the perfect song, and there are some songs that he wishes he had written.
In a 2010 interview with CNN’s Larry King, Bon Jovi stated that the list of the songs he wished he had written was endless and timeless. According to Jovi, three of them are ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ by Simon And Garfunkel, The Beatles’ ‘Yesterday,’ and the Rolling Stones hit ‘Satisfaction.’
In the interview, Larry King asked Jon Bon Jovi the following:
“What’s a song you wish you wrote?”
Jovi said:
“Oh, I don’t know.”
King then insisted:
“Give me one.”
The rocker responded:
“It’s timeless; it’s endless. It’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ ‘Yesterday,’ and ‘Satisfaction.’ You can go up and down the list. There are a million of them. And you’re always trying to write the perfect song. I don’t think it ever comes for anybody. You’re always aspiring.”
So, although Jon Bon Jovi has numerous hits in his music catalog, there are an endless number of songs he wished he had written. Moreover, he believes that an artist is always aspiring; therefore, there is no end to such a list.
