Mindset isn’t an app that streams music, but it does feature music artists prominently. Its roots are in the K-Pop industry: an app offering “exclusive, intimate audio collections of personal stories and life lessons from your favourite artists and prominent figures”. Now the company has raised $8.7m of seed funding to continue growing, including in the west.
TechCrunch reported that Mindset is a spin-off from K-Pop production firm Dive Studios, with artists including Jae, Tablo, BM and Eric Nam (the latter of whom is also a co-founder) discussing their lives and lessons over what are essentially 10-episode podcasts.
People can listen to the first episode of each for free, but then pay $24.99 to unlock the rest of each collection. And yes, you read that right: it’s not $24.99 to unlock the app’s entire content, but $24.99 per artist.
Music manager and entrepreneur Scooter Braun and Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin are among the company’s seed investors.
