The Jeymes Samuel-directed The Ebook of Clarence hits theaters on Friday (Jan. 12), and to rejoice his latest movie, the star sat down with Billboard‘s Gail Mitchell to debate the film.
“I believe for me, ‘epic’ and ‘daring’ are two of the phrases that outline cinema. When each different film is a superhero film […] it’s actually fairly uncommon that we get authentic storytelling within the cinematic expertise,” he shared. “I like cinema, I like movie, I like music, I like originality. Who higher to mix these issues than moi?”
Samuel’s reimagined tackle Hollywood’s traditional Biblical epics stars LaKeith Stansfield because the streetwise Clarence, a person who’s struggling to make a greater life for himself and his household. Impressed by the rising energy and glory of the Messiah and his disciples, Clarence stakes his personal declare to the same life as he embarks on a journey that encompasses dangers in addition to redemption and religion.
The movie’s soundtrack was spearheaded by Samuel’s longtime buddy Jay-Z and his leisure firm, Roc Nation. “We converse each single day,” the British filmmaker stated of Jay’s involvement within the movie. “It’s not like we create collectively. He’s a ground to the ceiling creator and I’m a ground to the ceiling creator. We’re simply having dialog, laughing our heads off, having enjoyable and on the finish of it, these classics are made.”
He continued, “We’re all the time collaborating. I don’t know when it begins and when it ends, as a result of we’re pure born creators.”
