Seeking to stay ahead in a crowded field, the online video company YouTube has adopted a piece of technology first developed by the ancient Greeks. It has opened a theatre.
The YouTube Theater opened this week at the edge of a football stadium and entertainment complex in southern Los Angeles, promising shows in which the stars of the very small screen would strut their hour upon the stage in real life, without filters or a pause button.
Developed by the company in partnership with Stan Kroenke, the owner of Arsenal and the Los Angeles Rams American football team, it seats up to 6,000 people and can livestream shows.
