Billy Joel is again within the high 10 of Billboard’s Grownup Up to date chart (dated Feb. 24) as “Flip the Lights Again On” – his first single launch in 17 years – rises to No. 10.
Joel achieves his twenty fourth Grownup Up to date high 10 and first since his model of Bob Dylan’s “To Make You Really feel My Love” hit No. 9 in August 1997.
Notably, Joel logs his newest Grownup Up to date high 10 every week shy of the fiftieth anniversary of his first look on the chart: On the record dated March 2, 1974, he debuted at No. 48 together with his breakthrough basic “Piano Man,” which went on to develop into his first high 10, peaking at No. 4 that April.
Amongst Joel’s 24 Grownup Up to date high 10s, he has despatched eight songs to No. 1, from “Simply the Approach You Are” in 1978 to “The River of Desires” in 1993.
Following its launch at 7 a.m. ET Feb. 1 on Columbia Data, “Flip the Lights Again On” debuted at No. 11 on the Grownup Up to date chart (dated Feb. 10) and held on the rank in its second week on the survey. As beforehand reported, the piano ballad, which Joel carried out on the Grammy Awards Feb. 4, returned him to the Billboard Scorching 100 (dated Feb. 17) for the primary time as a recording artist since 1997.
The music’s official video arrived Feb. 16.
“Flip the Lights Again On” was written by Joel, Arthur Bacon, Wayne Hector and Freddy Wexler.
“I began the music with Arthur and Wayne,” Wexler advised Billboard. “Billy and I met a while later in Sag Harbor, NY. We grew to become shut mates, and we began quietly engaged on his unfinished materials from over time. This era was a few 12 months and a half throughout which Billy, unbeknownst to almost anybody, began to dip his toe into writing once more. I travelled with him to a lot of his exhibits and, ultimately, I confirmed him ‘Flip the Lights Again On.’ He helped me end it at a studio and, as I believe he does with something, he made it significantly better.”
