Alien Ant Farm‘s 2001 album ANThology spawned two main songs for the band – their unique monitor “Films” and their greatest hit (by almost 400 million streams on Spotify), a canopy of Michael Jackson‘s “Clean Legal”. Although if Alien Ant Farm had their approach, issues would’ve been a bit totally different.
In response to Alien Ant Farm vocalist Dryden Mitchell in an interview with Nu Pod with Joshua Toomey & Ro Kohli, the band wished the “Clean Legal” cowl to come back out later… however DreamWorks Information launched it as a single anyway.
“Our intentions weren’t to have ‘Clean Legal’ even come out… at the very least not as quickly because it did,” stated Alien Ant Farm vocalist Dryden Mitchell, as transcribed by The PRP. “Once more, we recorded it, so we knew what we have been doing. We put it on the file. However, we would seen bands that all of us love, climb the ladder. It simply felt like every file received stronger, higher, after which grew to become a greater band. I felt like that was one thing we envisioned.
“So yeah, when Dreamworks kinda… ‘Films’ was doing actually good and [then Dreamworks] dropped ‘Clean Legal’, we have been all a bit bit stunned and brought aback by it. Once more, we recorded it, so ya know… I feel we have been genuinely a bit bit upset when it first occurred.”
Mitchell stated ultimately he got here round to loving the music, although on the time he and his Alien Ant Farm bandmates have been afraid the duvet would overshadow the whole lot else they did.
“It is bizarre to see one thing in real-time go like lighting a firework, after which be a bit bit offended about it, ya know what I imply? In order that was a visit. Now, the older I’m, I feel it was a superb factor in hindsight. Once more, I had these emotions of, ‘that is gonna eclipse so much…’ ‘That is nearly gonna eclipse the band.’
“Me within the blue jacket with the little factor [shaved hair part] and the monkey, was… simply on TV on a regular basis that I simply felt prefer it was that entire music and stuff was extra fashionable than Alien Ant Farm. And it actually was for a minute, and perhaps it all the time might be. However in the end, it is bitchin’.
“I’ve gone by means of my years of like ‘I do not need to play that music’ however now I am similar to ‘why?’ Simply do it dude, it is cool.”
However yeah, Mitchell is cool with it now. And the way may he not be? Alien Ant Farm‘s cowl of “Clean Legal” remains to be performed and talked about as we speak, particularly on the planet of the nü-revival.
“It makes me comfortable now. It is come full circle. I’ve had seasons of it. I keep in mind we did a tour — this was approach again — we did a tour the place we did not like play the music, and that is kinda lame. I do not know what we’re making an attempt to do. Once more all of it kinda stemmed from, ‘effectively they put it out unbeknownst to us, we’re simply gonna not play it.’
“It is bizarre to have these… I suppose it is human to have that, making an attempt to retract or one thing. However I am positively not ashamed of it or something. I simply felt like when it got here out so quickly, it simply felt like what we have been making an attempt to do was this, however this was what occurred.”
