Step apart Dracula, Edward Cullen, and the remainder of our vampire canon to-date. A brand new bloodthirsty iteration of the legendary creature has emerged in an unlikely suspect within the trailer for Common Footage’ Abigail — in theaters April nineteenth.
Helmed by Radio Silence, the directing duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett behind Prepared Or Not (2019), Scream (2022), and Scream VI (2022), Abigail is a little bit of a thriller inside a thriller. The movie follows a gaggle of criminals who kidnap a 12 year-old ballerina in hopes that her rich father pays their $50 million ransom in the event that they maintain her secure in a single day. This mission shortly proves to be much more precarious than they’d imagined, although, when the younger woman is revealed to be a vampire.
Written by Stephen Shields and Man Busick, the movie seems to pack loads of bloody motion and biting humor in addition — as characters quip within the trailer about whether or not they’re coping with an Anne Rice-esque or True Blood villain. Abigail stars Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Alisha Weir, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, and Giancarlo Esposito. (Abigail is certainly one of Cloud’s remaining on-screen performances after his passing in July.)
