Austin’s NPR affiliate KUTX 98.9 FM and community radio station KAZI 88.7 FM have teamed up to produce Summer Jam, a showcase of Austin’s top emerging hip-hop and R&B talent set to go down August 27 at the Long Center’s picturesque terrace.
The show features Geto Gala, the excellent rap duo of Deezie Brown and Jake Lloyd. Their self-titled debut, a rich platter of hip-hop bangers slow-dripped with Texas soul, was one of the best albums to come out of Austin in 2021.

The bill also includes Anastasia Hera, who landed her first Billboard placement last year for the “Big Tuna,” the lead single off her excellent EP “This Is Anastasia.” On the six-song collection of sexy love jams and thoughtful odes to living authentically the ace rapper showcases her skills as a soaring R&B singer. Soulful singer Moody Bank$ and rap duo Tribe Mafia round out the bill.
Fresh Knight and Confucius Jones, hosts of KUTX show “The Breaks,” launched Summer Jam in 2018. This year, they’ve teamed up with KAZI’s “Keys to the Streets” host Keyheira Keys to co-produce the event.
Based on the vision of Dr. John Warfield, professor of African-American studies at the University of Texas, KAZI began broadcasting in 1982. This year, Austin’s oldest community radio station celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Summer Jam tickets are $24 and on sale now at thelongcenter.org.
