Given some of the sensitivities around AI music and virtual artists in the music industry, it’s certainly bold for a startup exploring those areas to call itself Authentic Artists. Still, that’s what one startup has done, and it emerged from stealth mode yesterday with funding from Rupert Murdoch’s son James; Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda; and Roblox’s chief business officer Craig Donato, among other investors.
Authentic Artists is creating both virtual artists and the AI-generated music they will perform, with a view to having those performances take place within gaming and streaming platforms.
“There are now billions of gamers globally for whom the traditional lines between music and gaming are blurred, or even non-existent, and Authentic Artists offers a universe of generative music content for these game control-enabled audiences,” as the press release puts it. The startup has already unleashed its first 12 artists: “from a lofi-loving cyborg to a high-octane, half-iguana DJ…”
