A St. George art gallery is gaining attention through its monthly art gatherings inspired by local musicians.
ART Provides is local art gallery that rents out space and hosts several mediums of art for local artists. Founder El Gunter began the ‘Paint the Music Night’ in September 2021. Once a month, a local musician comes to the gallery and plays for artists of all levels.
Gunter teaches other classes at ART Provides and is looking to expand those classes and make them more affordable.
“I started out by just focusing in on watercolors painting and soft pastel, just as a way of a starting point,” Gunter said.
Since then, Gunter has hosted floral design classes with an expert on hand to teach jewelry making, expanding in new directions. Gunter said the project started with just a bunch of art supplies tossed into the trunk of a car and driven around to different locations.
“Now that I have a studio, I can invite other artists to bring in all the other mediums,” Gunter said.
ART Provides also recently received a grant from the Utah Division of Art and Museums that will allow Gunter to charge less for the supplies and classes she offers. The grant money is slated to go toward new classes launching in June 2022.
“So, the idea is to bring in artists, what I’m not calling a co-op, but it’s going to be a version of it, where artists can come in have wall space place to exhibit art openings, have art talks, to teach,” Gunter said. “And then at the same time, we can facilitate groups of people to come in and just experience art.”
