For instance, you can get two fourth-generation Echo Dot smart speakers, normally priced at $99.98 for the pair, for $49.98 with the special coupon code PDDOT2PK applied at checkout at Amazon. That’s about the same price as you’d pay to get a single Dot speaker for its list price of $49.99—in fact, it’s a penny cheaper! With its striking, orb-like design and surprisingly-good-for-the-size sound, it’s no wonder why the Echo Dot is one of our favorite smart speakers.
If you’re looking to take your music on-the-go, you can try the Jabra Elite 85t wireless earbuds, now $50 off now at $179.99, during at Best Buy’s competing The Bigger Deal sale. These buds are our favorite wireless earbuds thanks to the outstanding features, impressive noise-canceling and rich, crafted sound they provide.

The best pre-Prime Day 2021 deals to shop
1. 2 stylish smart speakers
If you’ve been thinking of getting into the smart home world, and you’re looking for something more compact, good news: The fourth-generation Echo Dot is currently on sale at Amazon for $44.99. Better yet, Prime members (sign up for a free 30-day trial here) can use coupon code PDDOT2PK at checkout to get two of these gadgets for just $5 more at $49.98, saving you $50 in the process. The Echo Dot is one of our favorite smart speakers for its sleek, orb-like design, trumping its bulkier brother, the Echo Dot third generation ($34.99 with Prime, $39.99 standard) while being more aesthetically pleasing and therefore more adaptable, with most home décor. That’s on top of the fourth generation’s respectable sound output and wallet-friendly price—which is now even friendlier.
2. A high-speed Roku streaming device
Though big-name tech brands, such as Apple, Google and yes, even Amazon, have thrown their caps into the streaming device ring, upstart Roku has won plenty of hearts over the years—including ours. Right now, Best Buy has big-time savings on some of the brand’s most popular streaming devices as part of its Bigger Deal Event, selling the Roku Express 4K+ for $10 off at $29.99, the Roku Streaming Stick+ for $10 off at $39.99 and the Roku Ultra for $30 off at $69.99. The Ultra is our favorite streaming device thanks to its amazing remote, which comes complete with volume control, programmable buttons and a headphone jack for wireless audio. We also adore its easy-to-use interface and support for a comprehensive list of services. That’s the cherry on top of the Ultra’s support of 4K/HDR Dolby Atmos sound and fast connection with wired internet. The Express 4K+ and Streaming Stick+, meanwhile, both offer high-quality streaming at more affordable prices (especially in the case of the Express). It’s hard to see those great prices go lower anytime soon, so strike while this iron is hot.
3. Our favorite wireless earbuds
The world of wireless earbuds is vast, and not always cheap. The bright side is that Best Buy has a top-tier set of buds on sale. The Jabra Elite 85t buds are available for $179.99, a $50 discount from the list price of $229.99. The 85t are our pick for the best wireless earbuds on the market thanks to their comprehensive controls that allow you to seamlessly jump between transparency mode to hear some nearby sounds and an impressive active noise-cancelation (ANC) mode that blocks out background noise. We were also impressed by their solid battery life of up to five-and-a-half hours with the aforementioned noise canceling (seven hours without), as well as the smooth, balanced sound. What really sealed the deal for us, however, was the way the 85t’s oval ear tips created a proper seal without plugging up our ears and how seamlessly they transitioned in and out of noise-canceling mode. A set of earbuds this good with a price cut this steep might not last, so get your music experience set for this summer!
4. This multi-functional smart speaker display
Sure, smart speakers are great on their own, but imagine having one that you could use to watch Netflix or check to see who’s at your front door? Amazon is currently selling its Echo Show 5 smart display for $59.99—$20 off the regular price of $79.99. Prime members can get an even better deal right now with the Show 5 at $44.99. This is one of our favorite smart home devices for apartments thanks to its easy-to-see screen and lustrous modern design, which fits well on most home office desks or kitchen counters. We also appreciated its Alexa capabilities and video feeds for smart cameras and video doorbells. A smart speaker and display less than $50? It’s a steal!
5. Popular premium channels, movies and TV shows
Among the many benefits of being a Prime member is Amazon’s Prime Video— a streaming service with a wide variety of movies and TV shows at your fingertips. In honor of Prime Day 2021, Prime Video is featuring discounts on certain media titles and premium channel libraries. That means you can rent or own various movies, like the coming-of-age high school comedy Booksmart, or the creepy horror film,The Witch, for less than $10. On top of that, you can get access to the libraries of Starz, Showtime, Noggin and more for only $.99 a month for the first two months. That’s a hefty discount from the regularly monthly fees you’d pay of $7.99 (Noggin), $8.99 (Starz) and $10.99 (Showtime). Take advantage of these deals to catch up on dramas like The Chi right from the Prime Video app.
6. This car-friendly smart speaker
Sure, it’s nice to have Amazon’s Alexa interface helping you out at home, but imagine if it could help make your daily commutes and lengthy road trips easier, too! Newsflash? It can. The company’s Echo Auto speaker is small enough to fit on any dashboard, and right now, it’s deeply discounted for Prime customers. Usually listed at $49.99, the speaker is on sale for the lowest price it’s been this year of $14.99—that’s 70% off! When we tested the Echo Auto, we found it can do most of the same things any Echo speaker can do at home: check the weather, read the latest news updates aloud, add items to an Amazon shopping list, set reminders, listen to music and more. You can also check on any smart home devices you have at home, like a smart door lock or a smart thermostat, from your car. While we certainly didn’t think it was a necessity for car trips, since your smartphone will provide many of these same services, it’s hard not to get a kick out of taking Alexa on the road—especially for less than $20!
7. Amazon’s value-packed wireless earbuds
By now, almost every tech giant has gotten into the wireless earbud game, and Amazon is no exception. The brand is back with its second-generation model of its Echo Buds, which Prime customers can get for neat discounts. Choose from a pair with a wired charging case for $79.99 (down from $119.99) or one with a wireless charging case, which will bring the price up to $99.99 from its initial $139.99. Both versions feature a $40 discount from their list prices. In our review, we noticed significant improvements in the Echo Buds between the first and second generations. For starters, the earbuds are smaller overall, with several sizes of ear and wing tips; have impressive active noise cancelation and a sizable number of features, which range from a finder function to locate lost earbuds, Alexa Transit to help you navigate public transportation and a VIP Filter that will help you prioritize certain notifications. Though its battery life is still average at five-and-a-half hours with noice cancelation and Alexa use (six-and-a-halfhours without either), our tester called them, “feature-packed, affordable earbuds that check all the right boxes.”
8. Access to millions of audiobooks
With a membership to Audible Premium Plus, Amazon’s audiobook service, you’ll have instant access to all the picks on your summer listening list from your phone or your tablet. From now through Wednesday, June 30, Amazon is offering four months of the service to Prime shoppers for $6.95 a month (after which the fee will jump to $14.95 a month). That means you can listen to thousands of audiobooks and podcasts, plus one premium audio title per month, for 54% off of Premium Plus’s standard monthly rate of $14.95. For those of you doing the math, that adds up to $32 in savings over the fourth months! We found Audible to be “a real treat” in our test run, with Senior Staff Writer Shayna Murphy praising the Audible mobile app, as it allowed her to listen, rate, review and mark titles in her library on any iOS, Android, Sonos, Kindle and Alexa-enabled device. She was also impressed with the service’s exchange feature, which allows users to trade-in unwanted audiobooks through the app for credit for a new title.
9. Unrestricted listens to millions of songs
Every summer needs a soundtrack, and that’s where Amazon Music Unlimited comes in. Boasting more than 70 million ad-free songs, Amazon’s premium music streaming service is being offered to Prime members free of charges for a full four months, with subscribers being charged the regular $7.99 per month after the trial period. (Non-Prime shoppers can also try Amazon Music Unlimited, though they’ll only have a 90-day free trial and pay $9.99 a month after it ends.) Amazon Music Unlimited is one of our favorite music streaming services for its massive catalog (it’s similar in size to that of our top pick, Spotify, $9.99 per month), and its support for Dolby Atmos Music, which “expands the traditional stereo mix of most popular music to include surround sound and height speaker information and allows users to hear select music in a much more immersive way than traditional stereo audio.” Though this feature is only available right now through the Amazon Echo Studio speaker ($199.99), our tester said it was worth keeping an eye out for future expansions. Either way, at this price, Music Unlimited is a great option.
